Would You Pay More Than $3,000 for a Single Flamin’ Hot Cheeto That Looks Like Pikachu?

Key points

  • A Flamin’ Hot Cheeto shaped like Pikachu, dubbed “Pikacheeto,” is up for auction at Goldin and has already reached a $3,250 bid.
  • It’s one of several rare Cheetos on offer, including ones shaped like Super Mario and the Air Jordan “Jumpman” logo.
  • The craze follows a previous sale of a Charizard-shaped Cheeto, which went for $87,840.

Are you a fan of Cheetos? How about Pokémon? Like, how big of a fan are you of both? Because right now, you can bid on a Cheeto that’s shaped like a Pokémon. And the starting bid is only a mere … $3,250.

On May 3, Goldin, an auction house specializing in rare collectibles, will auction off several special Cheetos shaped like recognizable characters, including one that looks suspiciously like Pikachu. And it’s known as — what else — Pikacheeto.

“The Cheeto is affixed to a custom Pokémon card (based on the Pikachu Base Set 2 card) and encapsulated in a 7-by-4-inch clear card storage box,” the auction house shared in its listing, adding that the Cheeto stands at two inches tall. At the time of writing this article, the Cheeto already had 29 bids and had reached the $3,250 mark.

It isn’t the only interestingly shaped Cheeto (a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto, to be exact) on the auction block. Goldin is also offering a Cheeto that resembles Super Mario, and that one is a total steal with a starting bid of $1,850.

“… offered is [the] lovable plumber and Nintendo’s Mario in Flamin’ Hot Cheeto form, resting inside a Nintendo Game Boy frame. Shaped in Mario’s jump form and measuring two inches, the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto is brought to life by the iconic handheld console, for which Mario starred in several adventures,” Goldin noted. “As Cheetos shaped in the form of beloved icons of pop culture and film, this example makes the ultimate display piece for fans of Cheetos and Nintendo alike.”

There’s one more Cheeto available if you’re looking to turn this into a mini collection — and that’s Lot #30, the Air Jordan “Jumpman” Cheeto. Its current bid stands at $1,050.

“The Cheeto, which rests against an image of the backdrop from the iconic photo it resembles, measures 2.5 inches and rests inside a glass case,” the listing reads. The auction house noted that the “reverse of the case resembles a trading card, listing Jordan’s illustrious career highlights. This piece, in the shape of the most classic Jordan photo ever taken, makes the ultimate display piece for Jordan fans.”

While the bids seem relatively low right now, would-be buyers should be aware that earlier this spring, Goldin sold “Cheetozard,” a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto shaped like the Pokémon Charizard from the same seller as the above Cheetos, for $87,840. So be prepared to shell out the equivalent of a down payment on a house if you want one of these rare snacks.
