We Tested Hundreds of Products in February — Yeti, OXO, and Smeg Were Among Our Favorites

This post is part of our ‘Monthly Obsessions’ series, where we ask our writers and editors what products they’ve added to their kitchen that they now can’t imagine living without.

In the day-to-day work of Food & Wine writers and editors, we test so many products. Like, hundreds and hundreds each month. And since our lives pretty much revolve around cooking and eating, it’s very exciting when we try out something that makes its way into our actual personal routines.

This February, our team loved a wide and interesting range of products. We enjoyed tasty drinks out of stellar IPA beer glasses, found new, non-toxic ways of storing food, made delicious pour-over coffee in a new release from Yeti, and cooked an excessive number of recipes from a dazzling cookbook by a famous chef. Read on for the best products we tested in February.

February Editor Obsessions

OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Silicone Spatula Set

Amazon

“I find a new use for these mini spatulas nearly every day. The set comes with a 9.8-inch jar spatula for extracting that last scoop of peanut butter, getting every last smoothie drop out of your blender, and more. Also included is a small 15-inch spatula with a curved head, which is handy for baking cookies and scrambling eggs. I love that they’re made from dishwasher-safe silicone, not plastic, and that they’re just $6 each.” — Phoebe Sklansky, senior editor

Yeti Rambler Pour-Over

Yeti

“I’m a former barista and have made coffee almost every way one can. Pour-over is my personal favorite method for caffeinating myself every day, so I was pretty stoked when Yeti announced its own pour-over. It’s a truly excellent and supremely durable piece of gear, something that would be great for anybody from a coffee-loving hiker to someone wanting to experiment with the style at home. No notes from me — just another perfect release from Yeti.” — Adam Rothbarth, writer

Great Jones Little Saucy

Great Jones

“I love stainless steel cookware and already have many pieces in my collection. So to earn a spot in my very tiny kitchen, a new pot or pan has to really have a purpose. I was skeptical about the size of this 1.5-quart saucepan at first, but after using it for about a month, I reach for it almost every day. It’s so convenient! It’s perfect for warming up leftovers for lunch or making one portion of a grain for dinner (or really anything where I don’t want a lot of surface area from my pot). My favorite thing is that there are no rivets inside the pot. The handle is welded to the exterior of the pot so it’s incredibly easy to clean; I don’t have to worry about food getting caught in any nooks and crannies.” — Nick DeSimone, updates writer

Leatherman Micra

Leatherman

“This little multitool goes with me everywhere — literally. It’s about the size of a nail clipper, so I can toss it into my pocket or purse. The compact design packs a whopping 10 tools into one package: knife, scissors, screwdriver, tweezers, bottle opener, nail file, and more. I use it to open up packages, cut loose threads, or slice into a bit of cheese on the go.” — An Uong, writer

Vegetables Unleashed by José Andrés

Amazon

“I was in Las Vegas recently and ate at José Andrés’ restaurant China Poblano, which was definitely my favorite meal I had on that trip (I can’t stop thinking about the salt-roasted potato taco). Before I left the table, I had ordered his cookbook Vegetables Unleashed on Amazon, and it was waiting for me when I got home to Chicago. I’ve been cooking from it almost daily. Last night, I made his steak sauce with grilled vegetables, which was funky, earthy, and full of deep umami flavors. I’m going to put that sauce on everything I grill this summer. The simmered shelling beans — I used Rancho Gordo cranberry beans — were rich and satisfying, and the addition of pickled peppers took it over the top with punchy flavor. If you like vegetables and/or Spanish cuisine (though there are a lot of other cultures represented here), I highly recommend this book, especially while it’s 58% off.” — Adam Rothbarth

Big Spoon Roasters Linzer Cookie Cashew and Almond Butter

Big Spoon

“Craft nut butter is a thing, and I’m here for it. I recently tried a new-to-me nut butter brand Big Spoon Roasters, and my partner and I tore through this jar of the limited-batch Linzer Cookie flavor in less than a week. Lower in sugar than some other “dessert”-y nut butters, this cashew and almond butter is made with freeze-dried raspberries and lemon oil and sweetened with single-origin maple syrup and organic coconut nectar. It has a finer grind setting, which makes it easier to spread, and the raspberry seeds add a Pop Rocks-like texture. It’s great as a spread on toast and has basically fulfilled my childhood dream of eating cookies for breakfast — without any refined sugars.” — Danielle St. Pierre, senior editor

Smeg Citrus Juicer

Williams Sonoma

“I love my Smeg juicer. Yes, it’s expensive, but it doubles as a statement piece for my kitchen. While I grabbed mine in pastel blue, you can’t go wrong with any of the colors.” — Liv Dansky, writer

Spiegelau IPA Glasses

Amazon

“After testing beer glasses, these are now some of my favorite glasses in my kitchen overall. The honeycomb ridges at the bottom, bulbed shape at the top, and thin drinking lip combine to maximize the fruity flavors of IPA and help you feel fancy while doing it. I’m at the point where I’m using this glass for all beers now — but my favorite use is for delicious, hoppy kombuchas. If you’re a beer or kombucha drinker, buy these now and thank me later.” — Dillon Evans, update writer

Caraway Mini Food Storage Set

Caraway

“Caraway just released a set of mini food storage containers, and they’ve already become some of my most beloved kitchen products. The containers come with a clever organizer that keeps them from cluttering my cabinets and straps to prevent them from leaking during transit. I love the nonstick ceramic material they’re made from, which prevents food from sticking and makes them easy to hand-wash.” — Katie Brown, writer

“One of my biggest kitchen pain points has long been my jumbled food storage container cabinet. Who wants to open the cupboard, only to have random lids fall on your head? So naturally, I love that this Caraway set comes with an organizer specifically designed for these pieces. Plus, these sturdy pieces are non-toxic and have handy glass lids so I can see what’s inside them. I even transported stir fry to the office in one and it didn’t leak in my bag. I’m enjoying these stackable containers so much that I’m eyeing the set with larger containers!” — Phoebe Sklansky

The Charger

counterpart

“My kitchen is very, very small, so a messy countertop is simply not an option. This USB-C charger can extend up to 4 feet, making it great for charging my phone or laptop while I’m cooking, and it’s retractable, so it won’t create clutter when it’s not in use.” — Katie Brown
