Vin Diesel announced that “Fast X: Part 2” will finish shooting in Los Angeles, the city that provided the setting for the first film in the long-running franchise, as a way to bolster a local economy that’s been hit hard by devastating wildfires.
“Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home,” Diesel declared on social media.
On Instagram, Diesel said that Jordana Brewster, his co-star in the series, reached out to him and urged him to press Universal to move the rest of the filming to Los Angeles, saying that the city “needs it now more than ever.” It’s unclear how much more of “Fast X: Part 2” is left to shoot. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2026.
Universal did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
Although the first film, “The Fast and the Furious,” focused on a Los Angeles street racing crew run by Diesel’s Dom Toretto, the series has subsequently moved to several international locales, including Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, London and Havana.
The wildfires, which are still burning in Los Angeles, have led to deaths of at least 28 people, as well as billions of dollars in property damage. Many members of the entertainment community — from Billy Crystal and Julia Louis-Dreyfus to Milo Ventimiglia and Tyra Banks — have lost their homes or been displaced.
“Fast X: Part 2” will be directed by Louis Leterrier. The cast includes Jason Statham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Dwayne Johnson.
