Usher apologizes to Sabrina Carpenter’s dad for feeding her cherry in ‘weird’ photo

Sorry Miss Jackson? Nope, the modern update is now “apologies Mr. Carpenter,” thanks to Usher‘s newest confessions.

When Sabrina Carpenter shared a Met Gala photo dump on Instagram on Wednesday, there were a couple of hilarious Easter eggs (er, cherries?) in there that led to Usher apologizing to the “Espresso” singer’s father for feeding her a cherry.

In the second to last photo she shared, Usher feeds her a cherry while she sticks out her tongue. The “Yeah” singer is smiling big in the moment.

Sabrina then shared a screenshot of her text conversation with her father David Carpenter, named “Dadda” in her contacts, where he sent her the photo of her and Usher that he saw on Twitter. “? Weird,” David told her.

Sabrina Carpenter’s father did not approve of Usher feeding her a cherry.

Ever the gentleman, Usher then made things right with Sabrina’s father in the comments of her Instagram post. “Apologies Mr. Carpenter,” the singer wrote, along with the cry-laughing and cherry emojis.

Check out the full exchange in Sabrina’s post.

The Met Gala took place on Monday with the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Usher performed, as well as Stevie Wonder, as a surprise, which is when the cherry moment occurred (Usher feeds audience members cherries often during his shows). Both Usher and Wonder delivered medleys of their biggest hits.

Meanwhile, Sabrina reunited with her “Taste” music video costar Jenna Ortega at the event. The Short n’ Sweet singer previously enlisted the Wednesday star for a Death Becomes Her-inspired recreation.

Sabrina wore a pants-less Louis Vuitton outfit at the 2025 Met Gala, which she previously revealed was because of Pharrell Williams. “He was like, ‘You’re quite short, so no pants for you,'” she said. “So here we are. Here we are.”
