Trent Reznor, Jeff Toyne, David Fleming and Nainita Desai Among ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards Honorees


Trent Reznor, Jeff Toyne, David Fleming and Nainita Desai were among the top recipients at ASCAP’s 2025 Screen Music Awards held in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

The four were the Composer’s Choice Award recipients at the performance rights organization’s annual Screen Music awards, with Reznor taking home the Composers’ Choice award for film score of the year for his work on Challengers. Toyne took home both TV score and TV theme of the year for Palm Royale. Fleming won documentary score of the year for Jim Henson Idea Man while Desai rounded out the Composers’ Choice section with video game score of the year for Tales of Kenzera: Zau

The Composers’ Choice Awards are chosen by ASCAP’s body of songwriters and composers. The full list of winners is available on ASCAP’s website. Elsewhere for this year’s awards, Andrea Datzman won for top box office film of the year for Inside Out 2, while in the TV-based genre, Jeff Cardoni earned top network TV series with Young Sheldon, and John Sereda was honored with top cable TV series for the music in When Calls the Heart. David Vanacore was winner in the most performed themes and underscore category.

In the streaming categories, Bear McCreary won for his work on music of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power; Michael Abels won for The Acolyte score; Jamie Jackson and WAZ won for Bad Monkey. Rupert Gregson-Williams won for The Perfect Couple’s score while Josh Kear and Meghan Trainor won for their work on the show’s theme song. 

For top streaming films, Blitz’s Hans Zimmer was honored for his score; Lorne Balfe won for the music in Carry-On; Amelia Warner was recognized for Young Woman; and Siddhartha Khosla won for The Idea of You
