Tori Spelling says she never drinks water due to ‘issues with liquids’

Tori Spelling wants you to know she doesn’t fear water, she just hates it.

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star and Stori Telling author dedicated the entirety of the most recent episode of her misSPELLING podcast to her water aversion. “First of all, I don’t drink water, which, if you know me, you know me, and you know that’s just crazy weird,” she began.

Spelling speculated that “the factual numbers, the percentage, our body is comprised of 75 percent water. So I like to say I’m an anomaly, because I don’t drink water. And when I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water, like how I’m still living, no one knows.”

Spelling has opened up about her hydrophobic tendencies before, revealing in an April episode of misSPELLING that she had been hospitalized twice over several months for fainting. “Most likely because I was dehydrated, because I hate water. I don’t drink water,” she explained.

On the more recent episode, the daughter of the eminent TV producer, Aaron Spelling, probed the possible origins of her aversion. The recollection stemmed from a recent incident in which Spelling’s ex-husband, Dean McDermott, took a suspiciously long time getting her a glass of ginger ale, which led to Spelling’s irrational fear that he had poisoned the cup.

“It’s not Dean specific,” Spelling explained. “I think that’s important to know. It’s like anybody who took that long, we would assume is poisoning.” To explain further, Spelling joked, “I mean, I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter. Hello! The creator of drama-rama storytelling. Hello!”

McDermott taking too long with the ginger ale, Spelling began to realize, triggered memories of Spelling’s mother, Candy, crushing up baby aspirin and feeding it to her in a spoonful of Coca-Cola.

“So this goes back to childhood. This is crazy,” Spelling realized. “This irrational fear of handed-over liquids from other people, but it ties into my fear of water because I don’t drink water. I don’t call it a fear of water. I just call it — I like to say, you know, I hate water.”

A powerful testament to Spelling’s abilities as an actress is how many of her film and television roles have forced the actress to not just drink water, but plunge headfirst into bodies of it. Spelling’s character Laurel is knocked into a lake by her vengeful ex-boyfriend Billy (Ivan Sergei) in the mid-’90s made-for-TV classic Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?

Her 90210 character, Donna Martin, was also accidentally knocked into a pool by Luke Perry‘s Dylan McKay in a season 9 episode. Just this year, Spelling returned to Lifetime with the thriller Abducted in the Everglades, in which she plays a mother desperately searching for her missing daughter throughout miles of Florida swampland. Spelling also executive produced the film, meaning she elected to spend weeks floating on a pontoon boat.
