Timothée Chalamet has made it clear he wants to be “one of the greats” in acting. But he’s in pursuit of greatness regarding his style, too.
Chalamet is nominated for best actor at the 97th annual Academy Awards for his performance as Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown. While promoting the film during its press run at many premieres and awards shows, for which Chalamet was nominated and won, he paid homage to the folk singer by nodding to his outfits.
Most recently, at the SAG Awards last Sunday, Chalamet wore a black leather suit with a neon green shirt under, referencing an outfit Dylan wore at a 2011 concert of his in Singapore. There, Chalamet won the SAG for best actor — his first major award in acting. In his speech, the Call Me by Your Name star spoke about the goals he strives for.
“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats,” he said in his speech. “I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps and I want to be up there.”
The finale of the Chalamet-Dylan run will be at the Oscars, and if Chalamet beats out Adrien Brody (nominated for The Brutalist), the 29-year-old will be the youngest actor to win in the respective category. So, all eyes will be on Chalamet on Sunday night to see if he not only takes home his first golden statue but also what Dylan-inspired look he will channel at the ceremony.
Below, see a round-up of the times Chalamet honored Dylan with his red carpet fashion.

‘A Complete Unknown’ NYC Premiere

Chalamet swapped his signature dark brown curly locks with a blonde wig and wore a beanie, scarf and leather jacket matching what Dylan wore to a screening of Masked and Anonymous at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.

‘A Complete Unknown’ U.K. Premiere

On January’s red carpet in London, Chalamet wore a floral dress shirt under his Martine Rose navy suit, which looked very similar to the button-up Dylan wore on his 1965 album, Highway 61 Revisited.

BAFTA Film Awards Red Carpet

However, the Dune actor put his spin on the look by adding a black T-shirt underneath, accessorized with a $246,000 Cartier necklace.

SAG Awards Red Carpet

The winner of the night also wore a jeweled-out Féline de Cartier watch as a bolo tie. The outfit — specifically the green shirt and bolo tie — referenced the same vibe Dylan went for when he performed in Singapore in 2011.
