Timothée Chalamet Makes Billboard Album Chart Debut With ‘A Complete Unknown’ Soundtrack

Timothée Chalamet makes his Billboard album chart debut as the soundtrack to the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, in which Chalamet stars as Dylan, arrives across four charts (dated Feb. 8). The set launches on Soundtracks (No. 17), Indie Store Album Sales (No. 23), Top Current Album Sales (No. 29) and Top Album Sales (No. 44).

Chalamet also debuts at No. 23 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart.

On the A Complete Unknown album, Chalamet performs 17 of the 23 tracks; and on Billboard’s charts, the set is billed to Chalamet and various artists. (His co-stars Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook and Edward Norton also sing on the album. In the film, they portray Joan Baez, Johnny Cash and Pete Seeger, respectively.)

The album includes Chalamet’s covers of Dylan-penned tracks “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are a-Changin,” “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and “Like a Rolling Stone.” The latter two titles became Dylan’s first entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, in 1965.

Chalamet’s only previous entry on any Billboard tally came with the song “Pure Imagination,” from Wonka, in which he also starred. His version of the classic spent one week on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 (dated Dec. 23, 2023) at No. 27.

A Complete Unknown is nominated for eight Oscars at the upcoming Academy Awards held March 2: best picture, best director (James Mangold), best actor (Chalamet), best supporting actor (Norton), best supporting actress (Barbaro), best adapted screenplay, best sound and best costume design.
