Glamping—it offers the best of both worlds. You can still bask in the beauty of nature without having to forgo a soft bed or a hot shower. And while there are now hundreds of spots that you can glamp in across the country, one has risen to the top.
According to the annual Campspot Awards, Broad River Campground in Mooresboro, North Carolina, is the best place to glamp in North America. The campground is set on 83 acres with tent and RV sites but is best known for its glamping options, which include cabins and geodesic domes. The accommodations have smart TVs, ensuite bathrooms or bathhouse access, and private hot tubs.
The standalone cabins can sleep up to eight people and have a mini kitchen with a microwave, oven, and a full-sized refrigerator. There are private patios for taking in the outdoors and rentable, private hot tubs out front.
Meanwhile, the sunny, airy geodesic domes have 400 square feet of space and can accommodate up to four people. The domes also have a private deck with Adirondack chairs and hot tubs you can rent as well. There is electricity but no running water in the domes, so guests will have to use the communal bathhouse. There are also complimentary fire rings and grills.
Beyond the accommodations, guests at Broad River Campground can enjoy 83 acres of activity-packed space, including an outdoor pool, a playground, a book-lending library, and a handful of games, including ping pong, horseshoes, and corn hole. There’s also a community room, laundry, and a store selling snacks and camping supplies in the clubhouse.
But one of the things that campers love most about Broad River is the river itself and the direct access to the greenway that runs along it, perfect for swimming, tubing, and fishing. There are also two on-site hiking trails: the Maple Trail, which leads to the Broad River, and the Willis Creek Trail, which runs past the creek.
The campground is just south of the city of Boiling Springs near the Tennessee border. The nearest major airport is Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), and it takes a little over an hour to reach the campground from the city.
Rates for the domes and cabins start at $99 a night, while the private hot tub add-on is $29 to $39 a night.
