When I moved to the city of Los Angeles from the suburbs of Connecticut, I instantly noticed a negative change in my skin breakouts and hair texture, which I quickly attributed to the water. Shortly after this revelation, I bought a water filter for the showerhead, receiving speedy results. I also purchased a water pitcher that filters out chlorine and excess chemicals, but as it turns out, that particular filter has not done me any favors, especially since it lacked the detection of some pretty prominent materials.
The Culligan Water Filter Pitcher is now my go-to choice, and the 10-cup happens to be on sale at Amazon. Instead of just ridding my water of chlorine, it filters out lead, forever chemicals (total PFAS, also referred to as long-lasting chemicals), pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. The pitcher features a 5-stage water filtration process, including two mesh filter screens (one is ultra-fine to truly tackle additional toxins), a foam distributor, activated carbon, and ion-exchange resin. In layman’s terms? It absorbs and traps contaminants within the water, removing them altogether.

In order to keep track of your water contaminants, the pitcher comes with a built-in meter right below the handle. The meter can be used to test the amount of dissolved solids in tap water; mine currently reads 356 ppm, which is considered acceptable to drink by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, but is still approaching the high end of the range. The device also signals when you need a new filter for your Culligan pitcher (the small light will turn orange when it’s time for a replacement).
The pitcher comes in 7-cup, 10-cup, 22-cup, and 32-cup size, but I recommend at least a 10-cup container if multiple people are using it daily. My favorite feature is the ergonomic handle that prevents spills; I’ve carried it from every which way and it has yet to turn on me! Each size is able to be placed in most refrigerator doors easily.

“I would take the filtered water from my refrigerator and then run it through the Brita pitcher, and could still taste chlorine,” one shopper wrote. “When I received the Culligan pitcher, I filled it with water from the tap and immediately got the freshest, cleanest water I have tasted in a long time.” Another reviewer said, “You don’t get air bubbles and the filters last longer,” adding that the water jug is preferred over an “endless amount of water bottles” because “you are truly drinking the cleanest water.”
The only con I’ve found is that the water flow is a bit slow, so it’ll take some patience to fill it. Even with that small detail, I’ve become loyal to Culligan’s PFA-detecting water pitcher. And in case you needed one more nudge to make the buy, I ensured my family purchased one for their household too, and they’ve loved the elevated water taste (and they’ve been loyal Brita fans for as long as I could remember).
