The warm season is right around the corner, which makes right now the perfect time to make your summer travel arrangements. And if you’re anything like the rest of us, then you’re likely centering your next getaway around some delicious meals. And Airbnb knows exactly where you should go to do just that.

In late April, the home rental website released its 2025 summer travel trends report. The company explains that people are seeking more locally focused experiences than ever before, which typically includes where they can get those local flavors. These Are the Top Trending Food Destinations for Summer 2025—From Italy to Upstate New York

“Globally, 1 in 5 guests said they chose Airbnb over other types of accommodation because they wanted a local travel experience,” Airbnb shared. “This summer, travelers are avoiding the summer crowds and swapping culinary capitals for more local, affordable foodie destinations.”

Airbnb cited another poll conducted by Panterra, which showed that nearly half (47 percent) of those travelers “prioritize authentic local cuisine as their top food and beverage experience.”

Airbnb took things a step further by showcasing its top trending foodie destinations, which include Alassio, Italy, which “offers a similar coastal retreat to Positano, with a vibrant culinary scene centered around its fresh local seafood, wild flowers and herbs, and famous Riviera Ligure DOP extra-virgin olive oil.”

It also named Rotterdam, Netherlands, in its list thanks to that city’s “innovative international food scene.” Then there’s Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain, a beach town in Costa de la Luz, where top-rated restaurants specialize in cooking the best seafood in the world.

Airbnb also shouted out Belo Horizonte in Brazil, “famous for its flavorful and traditional Minas Gerais dishes,” along with Shillong, India, “celebrated for its unique local delicacies and traditional Khasi cuisine.”

It named Marloth Park, South Africa, adjacent to Kruger National Park, as one more must-visit food and drink destination as it’s well-known for its grape cultivation, Arakawa City, Japan for its ramen and gyoza, Rawai, Thailand for more fresh seafood and local ingredients, and Santa Teresita, Argentina for its global bites with “influences from Italian, Spanish, and other European cultures.”

However, you don’t have to whip out your passport for a food-focused getaway. Airbnb also cited Oneonta, New York as a top food-focused spot, explaining it’s a “hidden gem escape in the Catskills that’s home to a variety of breweries alongside a diverse array of dining options, with a focus on farm-to-table ingredients.”
