It just got easier to explore the Dominican Republic and Central America.
Arajet, the flagship carrier airline of the Dominican Republic, recently announced new service from the New York area to the Las Américas Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ). The flights will operate from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, which serves the tri-state area and is connected to New York City by the New Jersey Transit train.
The new route begins on June 16, 2025, and Arajet is celebrating with introduction fares as low as $262 round-trip. The fares are available in the “Smart” class of service, which includes a single personal item, such as a backpack or purse. Passengers can upgrade to the “Comfort” fare type for an additional fee, which includes advance seat selection, a checked bag, and the ability to change the flight.
The airline will operate service to Santo Domingo on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, based on its booking website.
“Arajet is thrilled to include New York as its most recent destination, connecting both tourists and the largest Dominican community abroad,” Arajet CEO Victor Miguel Pacheco Mendez said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure. “Flights from EWR will complement our routes from Miami and San Juan as a critical step in growing our presence in the United States.”
The airline also shared with T+L that within less than 24 hours of opening sales of the route, over 1,000 passengers booked a ticket, which the airline viewed as strong demand and anticipation of the route.
Arajet operates on a hub and spoke model, which means that once passengers arrive in the Dominican Republic they can also connect to 24 different destinations including Aruba, Curazao, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
The airline has been on the move with an expanding route map, including a new route connecting Miami, FL to Punta Cana that begins on April 11, 2025, just in time for spring break or summer vacation getaways.
