Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer releases the Homestretch — an actionable afternoon update, just in time for the last hour of trading on Wall Street. Market update: The S & P 500 initially fell on Monday after President Donald Trump announced tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China over the weekend. However, stocks bounced back significantly from their session lows investors saw how tariffs can be delayed just as easily as they are implemented. The market pared its losses after Trump agreed to delay tariffs on Mexico for one month after a discussion with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, in which she pledged to send 10,000 soldiers to the border. Just like during his first term, we saw how Trump likes to use tariffs as a negotiating tool. The next question is how Canada and China respond, and whether they strike a deal to delay tariffs before they kick in Tuesday. Canada appears to have taken a more defensive tone to negotiations, and Trump said this afternoon that “tariffs will be substantial” if he can’t reach an agreement with China. Tech still weak: Tit-for-tat trade wars dominate the headlines, but the market has not forgotten the potential ramifications of DeepSeek’s low-cost AI model. Nvidia and many other AI infrastructure buildout stocks like Dell , Eaton , and GE Vernova remained under pressure following this week’s volatile action. Sure, some of it may be due to concerns about a trade war, especially with China. But the DeepSeek news cycle probably isn’t over yet because we’re still trying to learn and understand its impact. AMD is no longer in the portfolio, but the company reports Tuesday night and we’ll be listening to what CEO Lisa Su has to say about DeepSeek and how it could change the spending patterns of the big hyperscalers like Amazon , Alphabet and Microsoft . For Nvidia, we still want to make the position smaller (but still own it) like we said last Thursday and Jim reiterated over the weekend , but can’t due to our trading restrictions. Up next: After the closing bell on Monday, we’ll see earnings from Palantir , Kyndryl , Clorox , and NXP Semiconductors . Some notable companies reporting before the opening bell on Tuesday are PayPal , Spotify , Pfizer , Merck , PepsiCo , Estee Lauder , Cummins , Regeneron , and Marathon Petroleum . For economic data, the job openings and labor turnover survey (JOLTS) on Tuesday kicks off a busy week of labor-market updates, culminating in Friday’s monthly non-farm payrolls report.
