The Korean box office continued its steady spring performance over the weekend of May 9–11, 2025, with South Korean crime hit “Yadang: The Snitch” maintaining its hold at No. 1 for the fourth consecutive weekend.
The film, starring “Squid Game 2″ actor Kang Ha-neul, added $1.6 million, drawing 242,434 admissions across 1,150 screens, and now stands at a formidable $19.8 million in cumulative earnings with just under 3 million total admissions, according to Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council.
It was a closely contested frame just below the top, with Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*” narrowly overtaking “A Minecraft Movie” for second place in revenue. The superhero ensemble earned $901,228 from 124,957 admissions, bringing its total to $5.7 million in Korea. Meanwhile, the game-to-screen hit “Minecraft” posted $871,636 over the weekend, adding another 132,906 admissions for a new cumulative total of $8.2 million and more than 1.23 million tickets sold.
South Korean action-drama “The Old Woman With the Knife” held its ground in fourth, bringing in $719,656 and 103,221 admissions. The film has now grossed $2.65 million from nearly 400,000 admissions.
“Holy Night: Demon Hunters”, another local genre entry, landed in fifth with $466,475, pushing its total earnings to $4.8 million and 733,623 cumulative admissions.
Newly released South Korean comedy-drama “Virus” debuted in sixth with $209,408 and 31,365 admissions across 663 screens. The film’s total since opening on May 7 stands at $355,446 from 55,173 viewers.
Japanese animation titles continued to perform well, with “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” returning to the top 10 in seventh place with $132,820 and nearly 18,000 new admissions. The 2021 mega-hit has now grossed $14.9 million from more than 2.2 million admissions in Korea.
Another anime release, “Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon”, took eighth with $109,097 from 16,007 viewers. The film, which opened May 7, has reached $184,454 after five days in release.
In ninth, Neo Sora’s Japanese drama “Happyend” earned $105,571 over the weekend, bringing its total to $400,228 since debuting April 30.
Rounding out the top 10 was the long-running Japanese finale “Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack”, which added $96,785 and 12,468 admissions. The film has now surpassed $6.1 million with over 850,000 total admissions in Korea.
The top 10 films combined for just over $4.8 million, signaling a dramatic post-holiday slowdown.
