Sonic’s Fan-Favorite Slushes Are Back, and You Won’t Believe the Throwback Flavors

Sweet treats are a staple for us year-round, but we are particularly thankful for frozen desserts in the warmer months. One national chain is reintroducing two nostalgic flavors for customers’ summertime adventures. 

Sonic is bringing back two fan-favorite slushes later this month, both making a welcome return after several years. The Watermelon and Lemonberry slushes will be available on Sonic menus nationwide starting on May 27, according to a company announcement. 

It’s been several years since these two fan-favorite flavors appeared on the menu, and their reappearance is due to fans’ requests for their return on social media. The Watermelon Slush was last available in 2019, while the Lemonberry was offered in 2020. The latter includes real strawberries and lemon juice for a fresh flavor profile, as the brand notes. 

Prices vary by location, but the Watermelon Slush starts at $2.79 for a medium, while the Lemonberry begins at $3.29. It’s available only at participating restaurants and just for a limited time. 

Thirsty for more? That’s not all Sonic has planned for this summer. You might remember the chain’s long-running promotion of half-priced shakes after 8 p.m.—and now, that happy hour has just moved up in our schedules.

Folks can now swing by the drive-thru as early as 5 p.m. to score 50% off any shake, from an ultra-rich Chocolate Chunk Brownie Blast to an Oreo Cheesecake Shake. (The ideal plan for anyone who had a rough day at work and is looking for a pick-me-up on the way home.) This applies to every flavor and size of shake, but we’d issue a fair warning — you might pay extra for additional mix-ins or customizations. 

As for food, Sonic is bringing a culinary curveball to the summer menu. Cheesy Garlic Pepperoni Bites arrive on May 27 — and they’re described as a “crave-worthy” pocket of warm mozzarella, provolone, pepperoni, and pizza sauce, all encased in a crispy shell. You can sample the new appetizer starting at $3 for a three-pack, but Sonic says it’s also available in five- and seven-piece orders. 

We usually don’t associate this drive-in restaurant chain with quasi-Italian-American fare, but perhaps that’ll change.
