Seth Rogen Wants Daniel Day-Lewis to Cameo on Season 2 of ‘The Studio’: ‘His Process Is So Specific’

With Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series “The Studio” now officially greenlight, co-creator and star Seth Rogen is teasing who he’s going after for another round of A-list cameos. Speaking to Variety at a recent FYC red carpet, Rogen threw out that his dream get would be none other than three-time Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis. Though Day-Lewis hasn’t really had a foray into comedy, Rogen believes the way he works would be a perfect source of humor for the Hollywood satire.

“I think he’s like the greatest living actor,” Rogen said, adding, “His process is so specific, I think that would be an interesting thing to explore on the show.”

Rogen explained that he has yet to contact Day-Lewis or any of his representatives, but hoped that the actor might be watching the Variety interview taking place in that moment. If he was, Rogen had a very special message for the cherished Irish actor.

“Daniel, who I assume watches nothing other than [Variety red carpet interviews],” he said, “consider a Zoom with us, we’ll pitch you a good idea.”

Meanwhile, Rogen’s creative collaborator and Point Grey partner Evan Goldberg pitched having James Cameron do a cameo for “The Studio” Season 2. Considering they were able to get Martin Scorsese for the pilot of the show, this isn’t a far-fetched possibility.

“James Cameron is a genius,” Goldberg told Variety, “and is also known for sometimes getting angry and I think that would work really well on the show.”

Currently wrapping post-production on the third “Avatar” film, “Fire and Ash,” and continuing to work on subsequent entries in the franchise, Cameron may have his hands full at the moment. Nevertheless, as a “fellow Canadian” and longtime fan, Goldberg gave his best pitch to Variety should Cameron be watching.

“Please do the show,” he said after mistakenly calling the “Avatar” series “Pandora.”

Rogen did his best to help out as well, adding, “I met you once at a restaurant in New York very briefly. We had, what I consider to be, a very lovely interaction.”

Discussing the casting of cameos in an interview with IndieWire’s Ryan Lattanzio, Rogen said, “We were very lucky. We wrote ourselves into very specific corners with a lot of these roles.”
