Selena Gomez is nothing if not good to her fans.
The award-winning actress and pop star surprised attendees of an IMAX screening of her cult classic 2013 film Spring Breakers at the AMC Lincoln Square theater in New York on Wednesday night. “Did you guys enjoy one of my favorite movies ever?” she asked the crowd.
Excited applause greeted not just Gomez, but fiancé Benny Blanco, who was by her side. “Thank you so much, this movie means the world to me. And just that you guys are here, it’s so special. I’m so grateful for you guys, and I hope you enjoy everything we put together.”
What Gomez and Blanco were hinting at having “put together” was a new song called “Bluest Flame.”
“We wanted to do something special for you guys, so we’re gonna play a song that hasn’t been heard yet, and then we’re actually going to give it to you a day early on a USB when you leave, and our label is probably going to shoot us, but thanks guys,” Blanco said.
The song comes from Gomez and Blanco’s forthcoming collaborative album, I Said I Love You First. Gomez announced the album in February with an Instagram post that read, “I always trick you guys 🥰 my NEW album I Said I Love You First with my best friend [Benny Blanco] is out on 3/21… We can’t wait to share this special project with you soon!”

When Harmony Korine‘s gonzo party film premiered in the United States in March 2013, Gomez was only 21, but had already been making moves in the entertainment industry for over a decade. Spring Breakers decisively broke the teen idol mold the former Disney star had been cast in, alongside fellow Disney kid and costar Vanessa Hudgens.
Now 12 years later, Gomez has been nominated for an Emmy for her work in Only Murders in the Building, jointly won the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actress prize with her Emilia Pérez castmates, released three more studio albums, and launched her own cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, which helped make her one of the youngest self-made billionaires in the U.S., according to Bloomberg, with a net worth of an estimated $1.3 billion.
Still, she looks back on Spring Breakers with particular fondness, saying in 2024, “My mom started it all by helping me get Spring Breakers, a project I’m proud of despite its uniqueness.”
Around the time of Spring Breakers‘ controversial release, Gomez told Entertainment Weekly about her mother’s role in pitching her for the film. “My mom is my manager, so she was the first one that read this script, and she freaked out because she’s a huge Harmony fan. So we watched all of his movies. I don’t really picture myself when I watch, like, Trash Humpers or Mister Lonely,” she laughed. But “something spoke to me in the character of Faith.”
Gomez and Blanco’s new album will be released on March 21.
