Reese Witherspoon revealed in a recent interview with People magazine that she burned a bridge with a fellow actor friend after she roasted her at an awards ceremony. The acor no longer speaks to Witherspoon. The “Walk the Line” Oscar winner did not reveal the actor’s name, but she did admit that the whole situation “haunts me, it literally haunts me.”
“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress,” Witherspoon said. “She asked me to give her an award, but I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.”
“But that was not the tone,” she continued. “The tone was British, elegant, classy, and I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’ I’m still embarrassed about it. [We’re] not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore! I think she doesn’t like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”
Witherspoon made the revelation in an interview alongside Will Ferrell, with whom she stars in the new Amazon Prime Video romantic-comedy “You’re Cordially Invited.” The film, directed by Nicholas Stoller, stars Witherspoon as a sister of the bride who discovers their wedding venue has been double booked. The other party includes Ferrell as the father of a young bride-to-be. Witherspoon and Ferrell go head to head to be the last wedding party standing.
Along with Witherspoon and Ferrell, the cast includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young, Jack McBrayer and Celia Weston. “You’re Cordially Invited” is now streaming.
