A plane owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil veered off the runway while landing in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Monday afternoon and crashed into a parked aircraft, killing one pilot. Neil was not on the plane at the time.
“At 2:39 p.m. local time, a Learjet aircraft Model 35A owned by Vince Neil was attempting to land at the Scottsdale Airport,” Neil’s representative Worrick Robinson IV wrote in a statement posted to the band’s social media accounts. “The plane veered from the runway causing it to collide with another parked plane. On board Mr. Neil’s plane were two pilots and two passengers.”
Five people in total were involved in the accident, a Scottsdale Fire Department spokesperson said during a press conference. One was a fatality, two were in critical condition and transported to local trauma centers, one was in stable condition was sent to a local hospital, and one person refused treatment.
“Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today,” Robinson wrote in the statement.
Mötley Crüe’s manager Allen Kovac told TMZ that Neil’s girlfriend, Rain Hannah, was among the injured, along with her friend Ashley. The dogs they were traveling with also survived the accident.
Officials believe that the landing gear failed in the Learjet, arriving from Austin, and caused the plane to collide with a parked Gulfstream G200. Video of the accident shows the nose of the Learjet tipping downward and scraping across the tarmac as it turns into and collides with the other plane.
EW has reached out to the National Transportation Safety Board, which has taken over the investigation, for more details and will update this story as it develops.
ABC15 acquired footage of the collision, which you can see in the X post below.
Neil has fronted the hair metal band since just after its formation in 1981 in Hollywood by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, and guitarist Mick Mars. The “Shout at the Devil” rockers have released nine studio albums, all of which reached top 10 status on the Billboard 200 chart.
