Nicolas Cage is getting his long-awaited noir debut. Who knew it would be through the Spider-Verse, though? The iconic Oscar-winning actor reprises his “Into the Spider-Verse” voice over role for a live-action spinoff series, “Spider-Noir.”
Originally titled “Noir,” the MGM+ and Prime Video series was announced in 2023, with Cage confirmed for the lead role in 2024. “Spider-Noir” is based on the 2009 Marvel comic of the same name. The series centers on Cage’s titular character who is an aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York; he’s later forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero, as the logline teases.
Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston comprise the main cast. Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster guest star.
A first look was unveiled during Amazon’s annual upfront presentation. “Spider-Noir” will debut in 2026, with episodes available in both black and white and color. The series is set to premiere domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and later stream on Prime Video.
Oren Uziel (“The Lost City,” “22 Jump Street”) and Steve Lightfoot (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Shantaram”) are serving as co-showrunners and executive producers. Harry Bradbeer, the Emmy winner known for “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve,” directs the first two episodes of the series.
Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series with the Academy Award-winning team
behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” consisting of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Lord and Miller executive produce “Spider-Noir” for their banner Lord Miller along with Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Pascal executive producers via Pascal Pictures.
“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring
this series to our global Prime Video customers,” Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM
Studios, said. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”
In addition to “Spider-Noir,” Cage recently led “The Surfer” and will portray John Madden in David O. Russell’s “Madden” biopic. “Madden” is also an Amazon MGM Studios release, like “Spider-Noir.”
