Prepare to say goodbye to the residents of Ramsay Street – again
Neighbours, Australia’s longest-running drama series, has been canceled by Amazon just two years after the corporation saved it from cancelation by the Aussie channel Network 10.
“We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025,” read a post from the official Neighbours X account shared on Thursday. “New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.”
Reps for Amazon MGM Studios did not respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.
The Neighbours account continued in a thread to quote Executive Producer Jason Herbison, who has been with the series on and off since 1990, as saying, “Audiences all around the world have loved and embraced Neighbours for four decades and we are very proud of the huge success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK.”
Herbison thanked Amazon MGM Studios for “bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally” and expressed his hope that “there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.”

Neighbours was created by the TV producer and screenwriter Reg Watson in 1985, following the success of his mid-’80s Dallas-inspired soap Sons and Daughters. For 40 years, Neighbours has chronicled the dramas large and small of the residents of Ramsay Street, a tight knit cul-de-sac in the fictional Erinsborough suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, and the adjacent Lassiters housing complex.
The various marriages, breakups, affairs, catfights, resurrection storylines, canine dream sequences, and Y2K-panic inducements have been a staple on Australian television, until Amazon took the series global by adding it to its Freevee platform.
Neighbours is notable for the staggering amount of superstars it incubated at the outset of their careers. Natalie Imbruglia, Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, and Luke, Chris, and Liam Hemsworth all appeared on the series, and it continues to exert a pull. Both O.C. star Mischa Barton and Selling Sunset‘s Chrishell Stause joined the program within the past two years.
This is the latest cancelation by Amazon that is not being taken well by fans.
The company canceled the series adaptation of A League of Their Own in 2023, a move decried by co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson as “cowardly.” The wilderness survival drama The Wilds was canceled the year before, Josh Brolin‘s sci-fi Western Outer Range last year, and fans continue to petition Amazon to bring back the historical revisionist series My Lady Jane after it was canceled just two months after its premiere.
