Nearly 200,000 Cans of Target’s Good & Gather Green Beans Are Being Recalled in 21 States

Del Monte Foods, Inc., is recalling close to 200,000 cans of Target’s Good & Gather Cut Green Beans due to potential contamination.

On Thursday, March 13, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall notice that included 197,808 cans of Good & Gather Cut Green Beans, or 8,242 cases, which had actually been initiated on February 12. According to the notice, the recall reason is over the potential presence of a “foreign object” however, the notice did not detail what that object could be.

Food Safety News noted that potential foreign objects in canned goods could include everything from metal to plastic or materials “introduced while processing.” An example of this happened in March 2024, when Trader Joe’s recalled its six-ounce boxes of Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, which had the potential presence of plastic pieces accidentally introduced during their production.

All of these can pose a risk to human health, including choking or gastrointestinal distress. So, if you consumed any of this recalled product, it’s critical to stay vigilant for any digestive discomfort or changes in your overall health.

The recall includes Good & Gather Cut Green Beans in cans with a net weight of 14.5 ounces, with the UPC code 0 85239-11628 9, and Lot number 7AA 418507. The cans also came with the “Best if Used by” date of October 28, 2026. All the cans were distributed by the Target Corporation.

The recall is listed as a “Class II” event, which the FDA defines as “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” So, while not the most dire of recalls, it’s still critical to check your pantry if you recently purchased green beans.

Neither Del Monte Foods nor Target have shared additional information on the recall, including what to do with the recalled product. However, under usual circumstances, the FDA advises people to discard the item or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
