Nathan Fielder’s ‘The Rehearsal’ Season 2 Will Submit in the Comedy Series Emmy Categories

Ahead of the Season 2 finale, IndieWire can exclusively share that “The Rehearsal,” Nathan Fielder’s inventive, inquisitive TV experiment that reached new heights in its recent run of aviation-themed episodes, will be submitting for several Emmy categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

While categories like Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Fielder and Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series will use the whole season for consideration, the episode highlighted in the majority of the other Emmy categories “The Rehearsal” is vying for is the third one, “Pilot’s Code.”

In Episode 3, a situation in which Fielder helps a couple who is unsatisfied with their cloned dog evolves into the creator/star meditating on what led to pilot Sully Sullenberger being able to execute the “Miracle on the Hudson” landing. Fielder has been submitted for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series alongside Carrie Kemper, Adam Locke-Norton, and Eric Notarnicola.

“Pilot’s Code” has also been submitted for Outstanding Cinematography, Picture Editing, Production Design, Contemporary Costumes, Contemporary Hairstyling, Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), and Sound Mixing for a comedy and/or half-hour series.

A couple of outliers for “The Rehearsal” Emmy submissions are Episode 4, titled “Kissme,” where Fielder helps a pilot with his dating life, which will be submitted for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation, and the finale episode “My Controls,” which will also be submitted for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.

While Season 1 of “The Rehearsal” collected accolades such as a Gotham Award, Film Independent Spirit Award, Television Critics Association Award, Cinema Eye Honors Award nominations for its mysterious blend of reality and fantasy, IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers wrote that “Season 2 convinced me it’s an earnest effort to improve people’s lives and a sidesplitting comedy and a moving emotional odyssey for Nathan — as a character or a real human being, take your pick! — well, that’s what makes ‘The Rehearsal’ Season 2 a cut above the vast majority of television, as well as a shrewd improvement on Season 1.”

Nominations voting for the Primetime Emmy Awards begins on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
