Mitchell throws down tomahawk slam over Porzingis in Celtics-Cavs

In a battle between the Eastern Conference’s top two teams, Donovan Mitchell came prepared to make a statement early Tuesday.

Nearly five minutes into the contest, the Cleveland Cavaliers guard split two defenders at the top of the key and attacked the basket. Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis awaited to challenge him at the rim, but Mitchell put him on a poster instead.

Mitchell elevated for a tomahawk slam over the 7-foot-2 center, sending the crowd at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse into a frenzy.

At 40-9 heading into Tuesday, Cleveland holds the top record in the East, while Boston is second at 35-15. The season series is split at 1-1 with the final regular-season matchup Feb. 28.

Mitchell had nine points in the first quarter. He is averaging 23.7 points, 4.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds this season.
