This week, Meta launched a $50 million Meta Horizon Creator Fund. Under the theme of “Shape what’s next,” Meta plans to reward creators who can innovate and earn with Meta Horizon Worlds.
The fund will support Meta Horizon Worlds creators with new opportunities to create, monetize and earn rewards. I couldn’t get around to doing this when it was announced, but I figure it’s worth writing for those who may have missed it and might want a chunk of the $50 million. It shows that Meta hasn’t yet given up on its metaverse dreams, even as it invests more heavily in AI.
On Thursday, Meta opened up early access to the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor so everyone can start building with advanced creation tools that unlock creativity and accelerate world building for mobile, mixed reality and web.
Meta is expanding the Meta Horizon Creator Program (MHCP) to include additional countries and support creator monetization with the ability to earn monthly bonuses, sell digital items, and compete in creator competitions for cash prizes. You can learn more about these monetization opportunities by visiting the developer blog.
Build at the speed of your imagination
Even if you’re not a MHCP member, you can still access advanced creator tools through the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor, making it easier to build one-of-a-kind experiences from the comfort of your PC. The desktop editor features support for TypeScript to enable complex game logic, custom model imports to level up your world’s fidelity, and optimization tools that can help you maximize performance across multiple surfaces.
The desktop editor also comes loaded with Gen-AI features (available only in the U.S.) like sound effects, ambient audio generation, and TypeScript generation to help you turn your imagination into reality faster than ever before. Today, users can discover and engage with creator worlds in both the Meta Horizon and Facebook mobile apps. This growing mobile audience signals a strong appetite for exploring, playing, and hanging out with others on the go. That’s why Meta is launching a $1 million mobile creator competition available to all MHCP members, as well as extra bonus incentives to reward mobile world success.
Starting on March 11, 2025, this competition, themed “Mobile Genre Showdown,” will reward 30 talented creators for building innovative mobile experiences in Horizon Worlds.
