Man arrested after boy, 2, died in hit-and-run crash in Smethwick, police say



A man has been arrested after a two-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run crash, police have said.

Four adults were also injured in the incident, which took place just before 11pm on Saturday on Dartmouth Road in Smethwick, near Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said the driver of a grey Porsche Cayenne fled the scene after it hit a Toyota Auris carrying the adults and two-year-old.

The force said the child then died after being taken to hospital. A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man also remain in a serious condition.

In an update, officers said a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Monday.

West Midlands Police said they acted on received information. The man remains in custody for questioning.

The force also said checks on the Porsche involved in the crash showed it was stolen earlier in December.
