Krysten Ritter cast in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’

Krysten Ritter better watch her back because she’s about to meet a serial killer.

Entertainment Weekly has learned that the Jessica Jones alum has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection. Ritter will guest star in the new role of Mia. Additional details about her character are being kept more secretive than Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) double life … well, at least in the early seasons of the original series Dexter.

Dexter: Resurrection is a sequel series to Dexter and Dexter: New Blood (and the opening scene of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin) set in present day. Once again starring Hall as the titular serial killer, the sequel also brings back David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, James Remar as Dexter’s late father Harry Morgan, and Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan. Franchise newcomers on the cast include Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera. The show is once again executive produced by Clyde Phillips, who helmed Dexter and Dexter: Original Sin.

While plot details are still confidential, fans learned how a present-day sequel series is possible after Dexter: New Blood ended with the twist where Harrison seemingly fatally shot and killed Dexter. While prequel Dexter: Original Sin mostly takes place in 1991, 15 years before the original show, the premiere shocked viewers by picking up moments after the Dexter: New Blood series finale (which aired three years prior) and didn’t just resolve the major cliffhanger it actually reversed it.

At the time, there was no question about Dexter’s fate. As his long-lost son drove off, Dexter bled out in the snow and said, “Let me die so my son can live.” But in the opening moments of the prequel, viewers see Dexter getting discovered in the woods and driven to the hospital where doctors save his life. The show then jumps back to the past as Dexter’s entire life, beginning literally from his birth, flashes in front of his eyes, and the rest of the season chronicles Dexter’s journey from a student to seasoned killer.
