For Julia Fox, home is where the ghost is.
The 34-year-old Uncut Gems actress has revealed that her current New York home came with a surprise: a benevolent spirit named Beauty, who has taken up residence in the basement.
“I actually have a ghost that lives in my house right now,” Fox told host Seth Meyers on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night. “I feel like I talk about her a lot, and I feel so bad. I’m, like, putting her on blast. Like, I don’t know if she wants me to talk about her! Her name is Beauty, and she came with the house; she didn’t follow me there.”

Fox admitted that she wasn’t aware that she’d purchased a haunted home until she and her 4-year-old son had already moved into it.
“It was funny: It begins like any ghost story. I felt a pull toward this house, and it was a full moon, and then I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m getting the house,'” she said. “And then when we went down to the basement after we’d already moved all our stuff in, there was a little letter from the previous owners basically saying, like, ‘This is Beauty.’ And it had all her things: her hairbrush, her mirror…”
Meyers was shocked. “Wait, the owners waited ’til you moved in and then left a note in the basement?” he asked incredulously. “That is some really dirty — I’ve heard some bad New York real estate stuff…”
To which a laughing Fox simply replied, “I know.”
Still, Fox had nothing but positive things to say about her supernatural roommate. “She’s wonderful. She’s like the matriarch of the house,” she said. “She watches over us and we love her. My son actually sees her. I don’t see her, but my son will say, ‘I saw her, I saw her.'”
Fittingly (and eerily), the actress is set to star as a chipper real estate lawyer who sells an unsuspecting family a haunted home in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming thriller, Presence. The film — which also stars Lucy Liu, Callina Liang, Chris Sullivan, and Eddy Maday — follows a family as they contend with a spirit who delights in spying on them and tormenting their slowly fracturing psyches.
Presence starts haunting cinemas on Jan. 24. Watch Fox discuss her own ghost host in the clip above.
