Jason Momoa to Play Lobo in DC Studios’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Jason Momoa is about to fulfill one of his lifelong comic book dreams. The actor best known for playing Aquaman in the previous DC regime will now portray the antihero Lobo in the new superhero universe from James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

Momoa will star alongside Milly Alcock in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for DC Studios as Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the utopian planet of Czarnia in the DC comics.

Momoa, on his Instagram, shared a screenshot of a quote from a prior interview in which he said that if anyone ever called asking him to play Lobo or to audition, “I’m there.” He tagged the post simply, “They called.”

A rep for DC Studios did not immediately respond to IndieWire’s request for comment.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is being directed by Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya,” “Cruella”) and stars “House of the Dragon” actress Alcock as Kara Zor-el. Matthias Schoenaerts is the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Eve Ridley is also starring in the film.

Plot details are being kept under wraps for the film, but it has a script by actress Ana Nogueira. The film is inspired specifically by Tom King’s 2022 comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” and it will fit into the larger DC universe of stories Gunn and Safran are building, starting with Gunn’s “Superman” arriving next summer.

Momoa most recently starred in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” reprising his role as Arthur Curry in what was the last film in what was formerly known as the DCEU. He had also made a cameo in “The Flash” and in 2024’s “The Fall Guy.” He’ll next be seen in another Warner Bros. film, “Minecraft: The Movie,” opposite Jack Black, and he’s returning as the villain for “Fast X: Part 2.” Momoa is also known for his roles on Apple TV+’s “See” and in “Dune.”
