For me, the worst part of wedding season is planning my petite-friendly outfits around uncomfortably warm weather. I swear I’m already sweating just thinking about it. Invitations started pouring in months ago, and I’ve been left with a full roster of weddings coming up this spring and summer.
Along with some cool wedding nail ideas, I also plotted out a few key looks to fit the different types of weddings I’ll be attending, and their accompanying dress codes. It was important to keep in mind that I’m 5-foot-1, and don’t want to be swallowed up by a gown. I also prioritized breathable fabrics that I won’t overheat in.
I’m pretty proud of my lineup. Best of all, I’ll get more than one wear out of these beautiful styles by dressing them down with different accessories for more casual occasions.
Best Summer Wedding Guest Dresses
J.Crew Linen Mini Dress
J.Crew
Linen is a must in the summer. I know I’ll be glad I went this route when I don J.Crew’s lightweight linen dress at an upcoming outdoor wedding. My favorite thing about it is how the skirt flutters gracefully around the legs. The front reminds me of a dressy vest, which pairs stunningly with the eye-catching green hue—though this is available in three other, more neutral, hues, as well.
The Occasion by Old Navy Fit & Flare Taffeta Mini Dress
Old Navy
I had no idea Old Navy had a “special occasion” section, but the brand really outdid itself with this darling flora piece. I love wearing green, and the large floral print on this option enhances its elegant silhouette. The full skirt and bow straps add a romantic touch that’s ideal for an indoor ceremony and reception. I’ll pair it with raffia Mary Jane flats to complete the look.
Lulus Sweet At Heart Blue Floral Embroidered Two-Piece
Lulus
Fine. It’s not technically a dress, but it’s the next best thing, and is adorned in thoughtfully embroidered florals. I plan on wearing this to a friend’s backyard wedding and reception. It shows off just a sliver of skin, but since I have a short torso, the top doesn’t look very revealing on me at all.
Free People Free-Est Coastal Classy Set
Free People
Another set I was especially excited about, this looks so effortlessly sophisticated. It will be my outfit for a family member’s small at-home ceremony. In this gorgeous two-piece, I’ll be comfortable without feeling over- or underdressed. I already know I’ll wear this out on date nights and to alfresco dinner parties, too.
Astr the Label Bow Back A-Line Dress
Nordstrom
I have so many Astr the Label dresses in my closet—the brand nails the feminine chic vibe like nobody’s business. The sultry slide slit on this dress’s midi-length skirt, soft fit-and-flare shape, square neckline, and open back with sweet bows come together in a polished combination. I honestly can’t wait to whip this number out! I plan to restyle it for a couple of upcoming banquets, too.
