I Fly 30+ Times a Year, so I Upgraded My Luggage to This Suitcase That Will Last Forever

I have owned the same suitcase for nearly five years, and while I got plenty of use out of the spinner, it never quite fit my standards. The hardshell quickly showed wear and tear, the wheels slowed, and it was a little too heavy — to the point where I embarrassed myself anytime I had to pull it from the conveyor belt.

I was so fed up with the way my luggage practically dragged through the airport, I decided to finally upgrade ahead of a trip to Switzerland. I knew that I would be hopping from one city to the next, and I wanted to ensure that my suitcase wasn’t slowing me down. Carl Friedrik graciously offered to send the brand’s Large Check-In model, and while it already ticked my boxes on paper, the spinner is even better in person.

The Large Check In is Carl Friedrik’s largest suitcase model. In fact, according to the company, it’s one of the biggest you’ll find on the market period. On top of that, the design is strategic to provide even more space. There are two compression straps that I use to strap down my clothes and shoes, which is ideal for an overpacker like myself, and a compression pad that offers extra room for my delicates. The depth in total is 13.3 inches and includes two narrow zipped interior pockets to conveniently store away valuables.

The luggage also features 360-degree Hinomoto silent spinner wheels, which allow me to quietly move through the airport and don’t slow me down either. It already has built-in TSA-approved locks and is made from a German-engineered Makrolon polycarbonate shell that I’ve found to be the most durable yet. Even after several flights, the suitcase looks brand new. However, just because the design is sturdy doesn’t mean it’s not luxurious. The Vachetta leather detailing and sleek shell make it look expensive.

One shopper said that it’s the “ideal size for two people to take on holiday,” while another added that this is the first suitcase they’ve come across that “looks good but [is] also very robust.” Others wrote that it’s “luxurious and more than ample,” and “by far the best piece of luggage [they’ve] ever owned.
