How she spends flight time:
If I’m not sleeping, I’m usually doing something for work, whether I’m reading a script or checking my emails or writing something down. I do a lot of writing, whether it be journaling or writing down my ideas and jokes. I love that.
How she makes herself at home in hotels:
I do like a little scent situation. I love candles. I’m big on bath stuff. I try to always have something I can do to create a little bit of a home-type situation. I always bring a little candle, a blanket. And obviously I’ll usually bring a little human with me named Leo, my son. That always makes me feel at home.
Her advice for traveling with a toddler:
Oh my gosh, you need to download everything you can on that Netflix account, because as my son gets older, he needs to watch stuff. He also tries to eat all the food in the lounge, loves running around that place. He’s living his best freaking life whenever we get into the lounge. But on the flight, it’s tough with the little ones, for sure. The best thing you can do is give them something to watch, and try to plan their nap around the flight so that they can at least sleep for a portion of it. And then sometimes you got to walk up and down that aisle. I’ll be honest, I have help, whether it’s my mom, my best friend, or one of his caretakers. We all take turns to make sure that he feels secure in his community because they just don’t like sitting for that long. Honestly, me neither!
Her priorities when planning a vacation:
It depends. If I’m going with the family, we either want cold or hot. Sometimes cold feels cozy and cottage-y; we did that last year, going to Big Bear. The year before, we went to Antigua and we absolutely loved it. It was so much fun in the water, with all the different type of activities we could do. I’m pretty open!
The best vacation she’s ever taken:
It’s always the company you keep. The best one was Antigua. It was with my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brother, and my son, obviously. We were there for seven days. I’m a planner. When I go, baby? We’re doing the swimming with the fish, then the next day we’re doing the helicopter. Whatever we can do! Usually we plan these trips way in advance.
The hotel amenities that matter most to her:
Sometimes we don’t do a hotel—we’ll do a home or a little timeshare situation, which is also fun—but if it is a hotel, I’m looking for a one that has fine dining. Some come with schedules, so I’ll do yoga in the morning, or an experience with locals, I love stuff like that. It’s always good when you got a beach side [cabana]. Get under a little umbrella, chill out there, reserve it the day before… girl, you have made me want to go on vacation!
Where she wants to go next:
Bali, Bali, Bali. First of all, I’m not totally woo woo, but I can definitely dip my toes into that vibe. I love anything wellness. Sign me up for the colonic! I’m here for the whole deal. Bali seems like not only would the food and culture be intoxicating, but the spirituality [there] too. That’s a big bucket list thing for me.
