Haley Joel Osment arrested for alleged public intoxication at California ski resort

Haley Joel Osment was arrested last week for alleged public intoxication in the California resort town of Mammoth Lakes.

A representative for the Mammoth Lakes Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Osment was booked for alleged public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance on April 8. Identified as an “unruly skier” in a Mammoth Lakes PD media bulletin, Osment was held by ski patrol until around 2 p.m. when law enforcement was able to arrive on the scene.

Representatives for Osment didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Osment is best known for his breakthrough role in M. Night Shyamalan‘s 1999 mystery The Sixth Sense, which earned him an Academy Award nomination at only 11 years old. He has steadily worked in film and television since then, recently appearing in Zoe Kravitz‘s feature directorial debut, Blink Twice, and in the FX comedy What We Do In the Shadows.

This isn’t Osment’s first run-in with the law. Back in 2018, Osment was involved in a verbal scuffle at an airport in Las Vegas. Police were called to the scene when the “unruly passenger” got angry at an airline agent after missing a flight, but Osment was not present when they arrived on the scene. He reportedly returned to the scene and made verbal threats, but was gone again when police returned.

Osment was also charged with a DUI and marijuana possession in August 2006, following a car crash in which he broke his rib. He eventually pleaded no contest, was sentenced to three years probation, and was ordered to attend both an alcohol rehabilitation and education program and over two dozen Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Earlier this year, Osment’s sister, the actress Emily Osment, revealed that her brother had lost his home in the Eaton Fire that devastated the Altadena area of Los Angeles. In a Jan. 26 Instagram post, Emily wrote that she was “devastated for my mother, my father, and my brother who lost their homes in the Altadena fire,” urging her followers to “donate and show up and be there for those who are struggling right now.”
