‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Jessica Capshaw reveals she auditioned for ‘The White Lotus’ — here’s who she would’ve played

Former Grey’s Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw had hoped to be a part of the phenomenon that is The White Lotus.

Capshaw auditioned for the part of one of the girlfriends vacationing together on the just-concluded season of the HBO series about guests and staff during a week at a posh international resort, the actress revealed on Wednesday’s edition of iHeartRadio’s Call It What It Is, the podcast she hosts with her best friend and former Grey’s costar Camilla Luddington.

“I auditioned for one of those parts. I auditioned for Leslie Bibb‘s part. And I remember getting the audition and being like — I mean, I’m just such a huge fan of the show — so I was giddy with excitement,” Capshaw said. “And it’s always so fun to, ya know, to put together an audition and see where it goes and then see it come to fruition. Cause what’s unbelievably remarkable and wild about the casting process is, and I guess not shocking, we’re all very different. We all have a very different take on it. So watching Leslie, I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I was so in, and I thought she was fantastic.”

Bibb’s Kate was on a trip with old friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Laurie (Carrie Coon). The three didn’t get along for much of the trip — a lot of talking behind each other’s backs and other transgressions — but they ended up leaving as friends.

Capshaw didn’t seem to be deterred by losing a part this season.

She joked that, “I’ll just keep auditioning,” adding, “That’s what I did for Grey’s.”

Capshaw later explained, “I loved Grey’s Anatomy, and I was like, ‘I’ll audition all the times.'”

It took her three auditions to get cast on the hospital drama, she recalled. And it paid off. Her character Arizona Robbins was a regular from 2009 to 2018.

“I’m hoping it’ll just take two for Raechal Shewfelt Mike White and The White Lotus,” Capshaw said. “I’ll just keep going.”
