FC Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract extension until June 30, 2031, as confirmed by the club on Tuesday evening in Spain.
“The future is now” ran the simple caption to an image containing the prodigy and the words “Lamine Yamal renewal”, as well as the year in question – 2031 – and a copy of his signature, which were posted to X.
Scouted by La Masia aged seven and making his senior debut at 15 under Xavi Hernandez in 2023, Lamine has since become regarded by many as one of the world’s best players and the favourite to land the Ballon d’Or awarded to the game’s best male soccer player later this year.
He has already won France Football’s Kopa Trophy handed out at the same Ballon d’Or ceremony, in addition to receiving the Golden Boy gong and smashing a number of club and international records on either side of winning Euro 2024 with Spain.
Lamine extended his Barca contract until 2026 in October 2023, but it was always expected that he would renew and agree to a longer arrangement this year, amid turning 18 in July.
In January 2025, he told CNN that “I don’t know when [the contract will be signed]
, but I believe it’ll be soon”.
“In the end, Barca is the club of my life. I hope to renew my contract with them and to be with them as long as possible.
“I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barca, and yes, I will renew my contract. I will,” the teenager promised.
Around a month and a half before becoming of adult age, Lamine has now committed his future past the turn of the next decade.
Lamine’s extension is another huge statement from FC Barcelona
After seeing Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Raphinha all commit in the last few months, tying down Lamine is another huge statement from President Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco.
According to El Chiringuito, citing anonymous sources, FC Barcelona will pay Lamine $9 million (€8 million) a year as part of his new contract, with that amount rising by $2.3 million (€2 million) per season.
