“Everything’s Going to Be Great” in these troubling times, right? Well, at least with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney in the lead of a suburban dramedy, we know at least we’re in good hands. The respective Emmy and Oscar winners star as two married regional theater actors in “Everything’s Going to Be Great.”
Janney reunites with her “I, Tonya” scribe Steven Rogers for the feature which will debut at the Tribeca Festival June 9. Jon S. Baird (“Stan & Ollie”) directs. The official synopsis reads: “There’s no business like show business — for Buddy and Macy Smart, that means an unpredictable life in regional theater while trying to raise their radically different sons, Lester and Derrick. Through it all, Buddy pursues his unstoppable dreams, and Macy is left to pull it all together and keep the family afloat. As the family grapples with identity and belonging, they share a humorous and heartfelt journey of self-discovery, learning the power of owning your spotlight, no matter what stage of life you’re in.”
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Jack Champion, Simon Rex, and Chris Cooper co-star. “Everything’s Going to Be Great” is produced by Rogers, Alex Lalonde, and Bryan Unkeless.
Both Cranston and Janney have had busy schedules as of late: Cranston played a David Zaslav-inspired film executive in “The Studio,” was announced to be in “Grendel” with Jeff Bridges, Dave Bautista, and Sam Elliott, and is shooting the “Malcolm in the Middle” revival 20 years after the original series wrapped, while Janney joined the “A Simple Favor” franchise with sequel “Another Simple Favor.” And did we mention that Cranston previously said he was eyeing retirement soon? He announced in 2023 that by 2026, he will shut down his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, and put a pause on acting for at least six months once he turns 70 years old.
Along with “Everything’s Going to Be Great,” the Tribeca Festival also includes the premieres of “How to Train Your Dragon,” “In Cold Light,” “Deep Cover,” “The Best You Can,” “K-Pops!,” “Oh, Hi!,” “Paradise Records,” “Relay,” “She Dances,” “Sovereign,” “Tow,” and more, all in the Spotlight section.
“Everything’s Going to Be Great” will be released in theaters on Friday, June 20 from Lionsgate. Check out the trailer below.
