Delta Is Expanding at This Florida Airport — and Will Add a New Skyclub

A major Florida airport has an expansion on the horizon.

Tampa International Airport recently announced that its new $1.5 billion Terminal D will be anchored by Delta Air Lines, which will have access to at least six gates, and also operate a new airline lounge in the space.

Delta currently operates a variety of flights from Tampa, including direct routes to its hubs in Atlanta, Boston, New York (JFK and LGA), and Minneapolis. It also operates an international route to Amsterdam, and will soon launch a direct flight to Austin, Texas. Passengers currently have access to an existing Delta Sky Club in Concourse E, near gate 68.

“This agreement will bring a world-class airline to what will be a world-class facility for our international and domestic routes. We look forward to continuing the high standards and excellence of both TPA and Delta as we elevate the travel experience for our guests here in Tampa Bay,” Tampa Airport CEO Joe Lopano shared in the release.

The new terminal is projected to open in 2028, and is described as state-of-the-art, and will have a total of sixteen gates. Renderings of the new terminal show Delta airplanes at gates connected to a large glass-enclosed terminal that provides significant natural light throughout. The project officially kicked off in December 2024, when airport officials celebrated the groundbreaking. In addition to the new gates, there will be a new shuttle system, international passenger arrival processing facility, shopping, and dining locations.

Delta Air Lines did not respond to a request for comment from Travel + Leisure.

The State of Florida has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade, and was ranked as the fastest growing state in the most recent United States Census.

With the growth of population, officials say the new terminal will help the entire airport provide support for 37 million travelers annually.
