Charli XCX might be joining the Greta Gerwig cinematic universe.
The “Brat” singer/songwriter is reportedly being considered for a role in Gerwig’s “Narnia” film at Netflix. Deadline first announced the possible casting. Representatives for Gerwig had no comment to IndieWire.
According to the report, Charli XCX is being eyed to play Jadis, The White Witch. Tilda Swinton formerly brought the literary character to life in the original film adaptations. The books were first adapted for the big screen with a film trilogy spanning from 2005 to 2010, starting with “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”
Gerwig will now be directing at least two Netflix films based on the beloved C.S. Lewis novel series. The first Gerwig-directed “Narnia” film will premiere in IMAX theaters in November 2026 before streaming on Netflix starting Christmas Day 2026.
No other possible casting has been announced yet for “Narnia.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Gerwig and Charli XCX have collaborated: Charli XCX’s song “Speed Drive” was part of the “Barbie” soundtrack. And Charli XCX has been deepening her screen credits as of late, with roles in Cathy Yan’s “The Gallerist,” Romain Gavras’ “Sacrifice,” and Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex.” Charli XCX also recently filmed a secret indie with director Pete Ohs, titled “Erupcja,” which is Polish for “eruption.” The film co-stars Jeremy O. Harris, who also co-produces alongside Charli XCX.
Gerwig previously said that she is “terrified” of adapting “The Chronicles of Narnia.” The filmmaker already has tackled another iconic novel adaptation with “Little Women,” as well as landing a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for Mattel’s “Barbie.”
“I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start,” Gerwig said of “Narnia” in 2023. “I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘OK. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”
She added, “I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the course of the time I get to make movies, which — it’s a long time, but it’s also limited. I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in between, and having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting.”
