Carrie Coon reacts to rumors that she has ‘open’ marriage with husband Tracy Letts

Carrie Coon is laughing off the rumor that she has an open relationship with her husband, Tracy Letts. This is even funnier considering Coon herself is the accidental source of this gossip.

On a recent visit to the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast, the White Lotus actress got candid about her relationship dynamics with her husband of 12 years, revealing that she and Letts don’t get jealous easily and talk openly about being attracted to other people.

“That’s the nice thing about a marriage where everything’s on the table: you talk about everything,” Coon told Maron. “We’re not jealous people. Like, we don’t have any of those hang-ups. So we never wanna be like, the police. You know? So it’s nice to be in a relationship where we can always talk about, like, ‘Who are you attracted to on set?'”

When Maron expressed surprise, she explained, “It’s so fun. I love it. Tracy’s the kind of person who notices every single woman on the street… And he always tells me who he has a crush on. It’s fun. It’s interesting to know what your partner’s into. I think it’s titillating.”

Maron then asked, “But it doesn’t ever go over the line?”

“We don’t really like lines,” Coon replied. “Lines are really boring. I mean, look, life is short. Finite.”

Coon then went even broader, sharing her complex feelings about monogamous relationships — and hinting that her husband feels the same way.

“Monogamy is something we’ve imposed on ourselves. We were supposed to have babies and die when we were like 30. And that’s not the way life is anymore,” she said. “So I think you have to stay–you have to kinda be open-minded about what engages you in the world and what sparks your imagination and where your passion is. And I think if you’re willing to stay open to that, then you’re living a more full life. And I don’t think either one of us would wanna keep the other from living.”

Within hours, Coon’s comments took on a life of their own, going viral as social media users made assumptions. In one especially popular post, an X-user wrote, “Finding out Carrie Coon and Tracy Letts have an open marriage has been a really great way to start my week.”

Luckily, Coon caught wind of the comments and offered some good-humored clarity.

“Settle down, internet,” she wrote on X. “I said ‘open-minded’ not ‘open.'”

Coon and Letts met in 2010 while starring in the Broadway production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. They wed three years later, before welcoming their first child in 2018. They also welcomed a daughter in 2021.
