Recently nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series by the Gotham TV Awards, “Adolescence” star Steven Graham is getting even further praise, and from “The Boss” himself. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast for a recent interview, rock and roll legend Bruce Springsteen offered his appreciation for Graham’s performance in the upcoming biopic “Deliver Us from Nowhere.”
“Stephen Graham plays my father, and he’s amazing,” said Springsteen. He added that he thinks “fans will enjoy it” and that it basically covers the time period during the early 1980s when he was “putting the ‘Nebraska’ record together and other things” he was dealing with at that time in his life and career. Though he has seen the film, he was wary to reveal further details as, much like his own career, he prefers it maintains its mystique.
“I want it to be a surprise. I don’t want to talk about it too much, except saying that Jeremy Allen White did a fantastic job,” Springsteen told THR. “As did Jeremy Strong, and there’s a young woman, Odessa Young, in the picture, she’s incredible also.”
The Jersey rocker also shared details on the making of the film with Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast last month.
“I was on tour during a lot of it, so they filmed a good amount of it without me there,” he said. “But I was on set sometimes. It was interesting to see it played out, to see your grandmother’s house again, and to go inside and get a general feeling of what it was like when you were very young. So I enjoyed all those parts of it.”
The first footage from the film was revealed at CinemaCon 2025 in March, with both Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong in attendance. Strong plays manager Jon Landau to White’s Springsteen, with the footage showing both working together on the “Nebraska” album.
“It’s just incredible to be here with this movie,” said Strong from the CinemaCon stage. “Jon was deeply invested in Bruce as an artist, but he was deeply invested in his friend’s happiness and well being and struggling with mental health. I see Jon as Lewis to Bruce’s Clark, and their collaboration.”
Other cast for the film includes, Paul Walter Hauser, Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann, and David Krumholtz. “Deliver Us from Nowhere” was written and directed by Scott Cooper, adapted from the Warren Zanes novel of the same name.
