Boy, 15, from Northumberland, set to appear in court charged with preparing act of terrorism



A 15-year-old boy, from Northumberland, has been charged with preparing an act of terrorism.

He was charged on Wednesday with one count of engaging in conduct in preparation for committing acts of terrorism, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The teenager is also accused of one offence of membership of a proscribed organisation, contrary to section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTPNE) said he was remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

CTPNE said the boy was arrested as part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation on 20 February.

A seven-day detention warrant was granted by the courts on the same day.

A home in Northumberland was also searched as part of the operation.
