Boeing Tops Q1 Deliveries Estimates as Production Rises

Key Takeaways

  • Boeing’s deliveries for the first quarter came in higher than analysts had expected.
  • The plane maker is increasing production after it slowed due to safety investigations and a strike last year.
  • Boeing stock recently hit its lowest point in more than two years amid last week’s tariff-fueled sell-off.

Boeing (BA) on Tuesday topped first-quarter deliveries estimates after safety incidents and a strike slowed plane manufacturing last year.

Boeing delivered 130 commercial airplanes in the first quarter and 26 defense and space craft in the first three months of the year. That’s more in each category than it produced in the first quarter of last year, when production was halted and investigations were launched after a door panel detached from a Boeing 737 Max plane in mid-flight.

Analysts had expected commercial deliveries of 125 planes along with 20 defense and space craft, according to estimates compiled by Visible Alpha. Last quarter, Boeing delivered 57 commercial and 36 defense and space craft as the production was halted by a nearly two-month strike.

Jefferies analysts said Tuesday that they expect Boeing will deliver 526 commercial craft this year, up 51% from 2024 and two planes shy of what it delivered in 2023.

Boeing Stock Rises Tuesday But Firm Faces Tariff Risks

Boeing stock rose nearly 3% Tuesday and was the second-biggest gainer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Shares had closed at their lowest level in more than two years Friday sparked by the Trump administration’s new tariffs, which could impact Boeing. The company faces a looming trial or revised guilty plea for defrauding the government over violations of certain safety standards.

The plane maker will report its first-quarter results on April 23.
