Apple Drops Teaser for McConaughey Action Flick ‘The Lost Bus’ — Out This Fall

The “McConaissance” is officially back. Apple Original Films has dropped the teaser trailer for Matthew McConaughey’s upcoming action drama “The Lost Bus,” a story is inspired by real events and helmed by the Oscar-nominated “United 93” director Paul Greengrass.

While no exact release date has been announced, “The Lost Bus” will hit select theaters and stream on Apple TV+ this fall. In a release, Apple TV+ described the movie as a “white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires.” McConaughey stars as a school bus driver alongside America Ferrera as a teacher. The pair teams up “to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.”

Greengrass — who co-wrote the story with Brad Ingelsby — called “The Lost Bus” a tale of “quiet heroism,” adding that he was “honored to have been entrusted with the story.” It is based on Lizzie Johnson’s book “Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire” and is produced by Inglesby and Gregory Goodman. Jason Blumhouse for Blumhouse Productions is on board, too, as a producer, as is Comet Pictures’ Jamie Lee Curtis, who took the production to Blumhouse after hearing Johnson speak on NPR. Johnson also serves as an executive producer.

McConaughey took a six-year break from live-action roles, returning with a role in “The Rivals of Amziah King,” which premiered in March at SXSW. That part, he told Variety, helped him rekindle his love for acting — and through it he also rediscovered how his profession can be a “vacation” from his personal life.

“I remembered a couple of things: One, how much I truly enjoy performing. Two, I remembered, ‘hey, McConaughey, you’re pretty damn good at this,’” he said. “And three, I remembered that acting is a vacation for me, and what I mean by vacation is that when I’m performing, it’s my singular focus. When I walk out the door in the morning, my wife says, ‘Go kick some ass. I got the kiddos. We’re good.’ That’s vacation. Because I’m not multitasking. I’m not compartmentalizing. I’m fully focused on finding the truth of my character.”
