Apple’s newest product isn’t what everyone expected.
The tech giant on Tuesday announced a new iPad Air M3 tablet with a refreshed Magic Keyboard, closing the loop on a teaser video posted yesterday by Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook on the social media platform X on Monday.
Today’s news surprised some observers who thought the six-second video—which featured the words “There’s something in the AIR”—presaged a new MacBook instead. Several still expect such an announcement soon; Apple did not respond to Investopedia’s request for comment in time for publication.
Apple said the iPad Air M3 will have twice the speed of the former M1 version, and is equipped with iPadOS 18, support for Apple Intelligence and other features.
In Apple’s most-recent quarterly financial results, the company said about 7% of revenue came from its iPad business. The company said people can pre-order the new iPad, with availability starting March 12.
Apple’s shares were about flat in recent trading. The latest iPad news follows the recent launch of a new iPhone model.
