Adam Driver Returns to TV in Drama ‘The Dealer’ with Jessica Chastain for Apple

Adam Driver is returning to television for the first time since his breakout role in “Girls” that ended way back in 2017.

In a competitive situation, Apple has acquired and given a straight-to-series order for “The Dealer,” a drama that will star Driver and Jessica Chastain, who is also executive producing the series for her Freckle Films banner.

Per a synopsis, “The Dealer” is a biting exploration of power, class, seduction, and culture set inside the glittering world of the high-end art market and told through the eyes of an aspiring super gallery owner (Chastain) and the tangled relationship with her most gifted and unnerving artist (Driver).

Sam Gold, a Tony Award winner who most recently directed the “Romeo + Juliet” revival starring Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor, is directing the series for Apple TV+, and another Tony winner, Lucas Hnath, will write the series.

Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer will executive produce for Media Res, and Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael will executive produce for Freckle Films. Adam Driver and Alan Poul, Sam Gold, Tony nominee Lucas Hnath, and Sarah Lunnie will also executive produce. Arianna Anderson will serve as co-executive producer.

Ellenberg and Springer’s Media Res is the studio behind Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” which will soon debut its fourth season, as well as “Pachinko” and “Extrapolations.”

Chastain previously paired with Apple TV+ on the upcoming series “The Savant,” and she most recently starred in Michel Franco’s film “Dreams.”

Driver broke out in a big way in 2012 when he played “Adam,” the love interest to Lena Dunham on HBO’s “Girls,” and with the exception of a few voice roles and appearances on “SNL,” this is Driver’s first series since ending the show in 2017. Driver most recently starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” and he’s next appearing in Jim Jarmusch’s latest film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother.”

Chastain is represented by CAA and Mosaic. Driver is represented by WME.
