Harrison Ford is certifiably not a “‘going to my trailer’ person,” according to his 1923 costar Helen Mirren, and according to Ford, Mirren is a “real cool lady.”
The legendary pair of actors, who have starred on the Yellowstone prequel series since 2022, have become fast friends, especially during production of season 2, which premiered last month. “We had a good time,” Ford recently told PEOPLE. “A good time hanging out together as well as working together.”
“He’s what in England we call a ‘bloke.’ He is a guy, and because he’s a bloke, all the other blokes absolutely love him, and quite rightfully,” Mirren told PEOPLE. “And he’s always so lovely to all the other actors.”
In response, the Blade Runner actor said, “If I’m a bloke, she’s what we used to call a ‘broad’ — and there’s no disparagement in calling a Dame a broad.”
Bloke and broad having slightly different potential meanings, Ford was quick to clarify. “It means that she’s a woman that has the bandwidth to hang with men — not just to be a lady with them, but to actually hang with them… She’s a real cool lady.”

Mirren and Ford play Cara and Jacob Dutton, the rugged ranching couple who cultivate the cattle empire founded in Yellowstone prequel series 1883 by James Dillard Dutton (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) and ruled over in the flagship series by John Dutton III (Kevin Costner).
The series started out on a grisly note of survivalist determination, with Cara hunting down and killing a man who dared trifle with the Dutton clan. The tension never relented over the first season, and the long-awaited second season premiere caught up with the Duttons in a desolate state, having sold off most of their herd and scrounging scraps together to survive the long winter.
But according to Mirren, the vibes when the cameras aren’t rolling are decidedly more relaxed. “We would sit around together and shoot the s— off-set,” she said, revealing that “Harrison is not like an, ‘I’m going to my trailer’ person. I don’t think I ever knew him [or] remember him going ever to his trailer.”
The stars of the Taylor Sheridan series teased what fans can expect from the ongoing second season to Entertainment Weekly in February. “There are many other adventures happening all over the world,” Mirren said. “And that’s the extraordinary thing Taylor has done, is written a worldwide story.”
The progression of the storyline in season 2 sees the pains the family endures in being separated from the family’s heir apparent Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), Ford said.
“The pressure of everyday life in this context — especially in winter, and especially when you’re beset by enemies on every edge of your life — there are financial issues that have come to their crux. There’s the physical threat to the lives of the Duttons, and the family is not yet together in order to be able to push back against some of these threats,” Ford said. “So the strings are coming together to knit the whole thing into a really fantastic fabric, which supplies the storylines for this season of the show.”
