Another new product could be on the way from Apple. This one may not fit in your pocket.
Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook on Monday teased news out of the tech giant, posting a six-second video on the X social network that said “There’s something in the AIR” and adding the text “This week.” The video did not offer more details, and the company did not respond to Investopedia’s request for comment in time for publication, but a range of news reports indicate that a new MacBook Air is expected.
“The M4 MacBook Air unveiling is imminent,” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote, referring to a chip Apple announced in May. “Apple is preparing to make a Mac-related announcement as early as this coming week, I’m told,” he wrote. Other outlets, including 9to5Mac, ZDNET and Forbes also indicated similar expectations.
The “Something in the air” tagline recalls the original MacBook Air launch, several publications noted, from 2008.
In Apple’s most-recent quarterly financial results, the company said about 7% of revenue came from Mac products, including MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac.
A MacBook announcement would come days after Apple’s newest phone model, the iPhone 16e, hit stores.
Apple shares fell about 1.6% on Monday amid a broad selloff.
