Distilled Vinegar

Robin Murphy, president of Maid Brigade in White Plains, New York, calls it a must-have in any green cleaning kit. “I use it to clean countertops and glass—even freshen up the air in my home,” she says, “It works as a natural disinfectant and deodorizer and is an eco-friendly way to tackle buildup without harsh chemicals. I typically use white distilled vinegar to clean, but apple cider can work too.”

Distilled vinegar can also be used in the laundry on those extra stinky gym clothes and kids’ clothes. Just pour it into the fabric softener cup before you start the load.

Baking Soda

Plus, it’s great for a quick shine on stainless steel.”

Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths usually don’t come cheap, but they are one of the best ways to clean many different surfaces. Best of all, they’re more powerful, eco-friendly, and ultimately cheaper than paper towels. “These are excellent for wiping down surfaces without using chemicals,” Murphy says. “They trap dust and dirt, making them perfect for cleaning windows, countertops, and dusting. Plus, they’re reusable and easy to wash.”

Melamine Scrubbers

Did you find a strange scratch on the wall or perhaps a splattering of stains from that tomato sauce you made? Melamine scrubbing pads can be true miracle workers in times of dirt distress.
