TV Ratings: ‘Yellowjackets’ Hits Streaming High With Season 3 Premiere

The third season premiere of Yellowjackets drew about 2 million viewers in its opening weekend — nearly all of them from streaming.

The series gathered 2.03 million viewers worldwide in the three days after its Feb. 14 premiere on Paramount+ With Showtime. That’s a slight improvement on the season two opener, which came in just under 2 million. The tally includes the show’s on-air premiere on Feb. 16, but that accounted for only 92,000 viewers, according to Nielsen figures.

That leaves about 1.94 million viewers via streaming, which is a record for any episode of Yellowjackets. The season three premiere’s streaming audience grew by 58 percent vs. the season two opener in March 2023 (which, it should be noted, was before Showtime’s direct-to-consumer streaming service was fully integrated into Paramount+).

Showtime also says the premiere had the most social interactions of any episode in the show’s history, with a more than tenfold increase in engagements vs. the season two debut.

The season three premiere continued to raise questions about the show’s 1996 timeline — in which a high school girls soccer team is stranded in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash — although co-creator Ashley Lyle told The Hollywood Reporter that the remainder of the season will help viewers “learn a lot more about what they did out there.”

Lyle, co-creator Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco are the showrunners of Yellowjackets. They executive produce with Drew Comins of Creative Engine, Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Brad Van Arragon. Lionsgate Television produces the series.
