Travis Kelce Just Revealed the Ice Cream Brand You Need to Try ASAP

As you likely know by now, Travis Kelce will be vying for his fourth Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9. You’re probably also aware that he’s dating 14-time Grammy winner and pop superstar Taylor Swift.

But what you might not be as familiar with are the professional athlete’s hottest takes and preferences on food. He has a go-to cinnamon roll spot in Kansas City (which we happen to have the recipe for), and he’s previously said that lobster tastes “like absolutely nothing.” And now, on the latest episode of the tight end’s podcast with his older brother and former NFL player Jason Kelce, Travis is giving even more insight into what he eats, starting with some strong opinions on ice cream.

On Wednesday’s episode of New Heights With Jason and Travis Kelce, the duo are discussing their all-time favorite ice cream flavors when they reveal a tip that I’ll be testing out immediately. While contemplating his pint preferences, Travis points out that “some flavors taste better from different places.”

He’s not wrong — I’m partial to the cookies and cream ice cream from Häagen-Dazs specifically. When it comes to cake batter, which both brothers name among the best ice cream flavors out there, they say you have to get it from Cold Stone Creamery.

They’re so aligned on this opinion that the Kelces actually finish each other’s sentences. Jason notes that one of his favorite frozen treats is “Cake batter, but do cake batter specifically from…” and Travis chimes in with “Cold Stone.” But what makes this ice cream shop’s rendition of the classic flavor so special? It’s hard to tell, considering that Cold Stone won’t publicly release the recipe, but it might be thanks to the brand’s commitment to fresh ice cream.

If you’ve noticed that there never seem to be pints of Cold Stone for sale in the freezer aisle at your grocery store, that’s because all of its ice creams are made in-store. (For this reason, some fans say you should always go to the ice cream shop on Monday, when they’ve just made a fresh batch of all the frozen desserts.) Flavors tend to be more potent when they’re fresher, and for something subtle like cake batter, that freshness makes a big difference.

Cold Stone’s ice cream also has a relatively high butterfat percentage, because it’s a “super-premium ice cream.” This means it has a butterfat content of at least 12%–14%, which isn’t uncommon for a quality ice cream, but it is higher than the minimum required butterfat percentage of 10% in the United States.

So, if you notice that Cold Stone tastes richer than your off-brand grocery store pint, this is likely why. A higher butterfat content matters for a flavor that’s largely reliant on simple sweetness and a buttery, almost custardy taste, like cake batter.

If cake batter ice cream isn’t quite your thing, the Kelce brothers do mention several other options that would be on what they call their “Mount Rushmore of ice cream flavors.” Butter pecan, cookies and cream, and black raspberry chip (specifically from Graeter’s) all make the cut alongside cake batter. Want to really ensure that your ice cream order is aligned with the two football stars? Do what Jason does, and have Cold Stone mix brownie pieces into your cup of cake batter.
